Last week offered a fascinating glimpse into how AI is reshaping the UK’s most vital sectors – from energy to government, education and health.
At An Evening With TechMarketView, Georgina O’Toole highlighted how innovation in the energy sector is being fuelled by AI and data intelligence. The focus is shifting from experimentation to real-world impact – using automation and predictive insight to optimise supply, cut emissions and build resilience into national infrastructure. Not only was it an insightful evening, it was great to see a female leadership team at the heart of tech innovation and insights.
Meanwhile, I was also lucky enough to get an invite to ICS.AI’s Company Day, where CEO Martin Neale showcased how AI is already transforming public services. From streamlining resident engagement in local government to driving AI equality in education – and with health next in line – ICS.AI is proving that responsible, accessible AI isn’t just for the private sector. It’s becoming the engine of modern public service delivery.
Personally, I’ve been around since the launch of the internet (I launched the first internet browser, ahem), and seeing AI in action now is just as exciting – and actually more so. Unlike those early days of the web, this is tangible innovation and its impacts are nothing short of remarkable.
What connects these conversations is a sense of progress and the art of the possible: AI is no longer a distant vision. It’s happening now, across the systems we rely on every day – and the UK tech community is leading the charge.
