Making the ‘AI-powered human’ company famous

Making the ‘AI-powered human’ company famous

Unbabel is one of Portugal’s most successful tech start-ups, but was struggling to stand out in the AI translation space across the UK and US. Unbabel was well-established in local press but was looking to develop its global presence. CommsCo’s brief was to raise UK and US profile and establish Unbabel as a market leader in customer-centric ‘translation-as-a-service’.

Our Strategic Approach

Our work was based on unlocking the amazing work being undertaken by Unbabel’s labs teams, and the industry contributions being made by its senior leadership which were going unrecognised. We positioned Unbabel’s CEO and CTO as thought leaders across the AI, customer service, and start-up press, and maximised the impact of Unbabel’s new product and partnership announcements to create a strong drumbeat of news and views from the company.

The team also organised media attendees for the first ‘Customer Centric Conference’ for Unbabel in the company’s home city of Lisbon. We took key journalists to the event, securing one-on-one briefings and arranging product demonstrations which resulted in coverage in Forbes among others.

We moved the conversation on from highly technical aspects of translation and onto the direct business and customer benefits that Unbabel’s technology delivered. This ensured that Unbabel became recognised for its ‘AI-powered human’ model, and for the customer impact of its technology as it came to own the customer-centric AI space.

Game Changing Results

In one twelve-month period, key results included:

  • Raising the profile of Unbabel’s executive team with continuing in-depth comments and features across national and technology press
  • Securing coverage in VentureBeat, TechCrunch, Forbes, Fortune and Computer Weekly among others
  • Delivering 60 tier one mentions in business, AI, and tech verticals
  • Securing valuable speaking opportunities at high-profile global events
  • Landing three key industry award nominations, including a win at the ECCCSAs on the same day as Unbabel’s CEO was interviewed by WIRED
  • Securing widespread coverage of major Unbabel news such as its $60m Series C funding round

CommsCo provided critical assistance as we were cementing our position as thought leaders in the field. They’re proactive and structured in a way that facilitates our work, and they are a real member of the team.
